When I was interning in the Life College of Chiropractic clinics from 1994-1996 I had some interesting experiences with the supervising chiropractors of the clinic.
After treated patients I began to notice that despite getting regular adjustments I was catching their colds. To remedy the situation I began to use the latex examination gloves in the adjusting rooms while treating patients. Several chiropractors made fun of me for using gloves saying that they did not believe in the germ theory. I ignored them, wore the gloves and no longer caught or transmitted colds from or to my patients.
In my last year of school I did pick up a very bad upper respiratory tract infection that lasted two weeks. Being in the middle of some very hard classes I elected to attend class and just warn the students to sit away from me. They teased me for believing in the germ theory of disease yet within a few days about 75% of the students were miserably sick with the same cold.
A final experience has to do with the old Life administration. I suffered a splinter in one buttock from the wooden benches on campus across from the clinic and had to go see a doctor. I took too long to see the doctor and the wound became infected so I had to take antibiotics. The head of facilities, Mildred Kimbrough DC (who was an overpaid nepotistic relative of Sid E Williams), refused to pay for my medication but covered my doctor's visit under the school's insurance policy. Her underling told me it was school policy not to pay for medication because they didn't believe in it.
And of course the school did, and continues to, not have one registered school nurse in the entire clinic for students who get sick or injured.
Anyone choosing to attend this program needs a mental health evaluation-either before or definitely after attending it.

When I was planning on attending Life University I was concerned about finding out which immunizations the school recommended I get. At the time I was in the process of getting some immunizations up to date and needed a particular shot. To my surprise, Life University not only didn't have a clinic on campus for dispensing immunization shots, but were not particulary receptive to my inquiry. I had to go incognito and get my shots far away from the school.
You raise a point that a lot of people have probably not thought about. Do chiropractors wash their hands between seeing patients? How conscientitous is the average chiropractor about sanitary issues in his office?

I've never seen this done. It stands to reason that they wouldn't if they don't believe in the germ theory.

Handwashing is widely recognized as the most effective means of preventing nosocomial/health care related infections. The accrediting agencies which accredit hospitals and rehab facilities often have very strict standards in this area. I can't imagine not washing my hands frequently throughout the day and using the alcohol hand gel we are given...amazing.... J
