The prize is watching the school go out of business.

Closed? :o I can only wish!!!!

As long as there are suckers enticed by the title of "doctor," and the prospects of earning big money, then these schools will stay in business.

But beware, subpar college students and doctor wannabees -- the price of your "title" will be a lifetime of debt with no respect. That is, unless you resort to being the used car salesman of healthcare -- then, maybe, you might be able to scrape out a living. But you'll sell your soul in the process... and no one will ever see you as a real doctor anyway.

I would know. I was such a fool!

Dear God, I know you don't seem to care but please destroy Logan College of Chiropractic with an F5 tornado. It can be in the middle of the night so nobody is hurt as long as the devastation is so vast it is unsalvageable. A gynormous sink hole is also an option rendering the grounds useless! It wouldn't really do much but it would make me feel really good! If *my husband* and hoards of others have to start over, Logan should see what it feels like too!

I would bet that Life West is the next to go. I see it as a similar situation down in LA with two schools being in the same area. Lifewest alum like docm and I have been getting multiple emails and flyers for future upcoming events, as well as surveys....specifically one called "The Wave" which is set for the first week of August that no doubt will be used to try to get enrollment up for the fall semester.

Also, Clum has retired and there's a new president Kelly...I think Kelly will be wishing he was back hopping around in the outback with the Kangaroos in a year or two...he has no idea of the shitstorm he's walkiing into. Kelly himself has used the term, "gravely concerned" when discussing enrollment.

Not that I think Palmer West is doing any better but they do have the "Palmer" name and would appear to have a lower overhead, as they're not trying to pay off a new school like Lifewest is.

The good thing about this is that the more chiropractic schools close the worse the reputation will get. It's a compounding effect.

It would be great to see Life West close. I hope you are right.

Those of us still in the profession have long talked about reducing enrollment at chiropractic schools since there was too much supply for the need present. I remember in a forum asking several school presidents about this issue, but really none really considered it a problem. What we are seeing now is the marketplace taking care of an issue that should have been addressed internally within our profession many years ago. Enrollment should have been scaled back and that would have reduced the glut of new practitioners. A smaller profession would have made ours a stronger one with more people succeeding in practice.

As Allen pointed out, this will not help our reputation. Though many on this board do not seem to care if this happens, I do.

I share your affection for the reputation of the profession but to do nothing or pine for the perpetuation of the situation is to fall on all our heads! Only negative attention, which I think is deserving, can spare this profession! A complete collapse and rebuilding complete with exposure of the greed and corruption that has weaved itself through so tightly at this point would be ideal! Why sacrifice so many of us so too few of the wrong types can represent us!? This isn't about a handful of disenfranchised alumnis not making it financially, jealous that some are making it and they are not! This is about having a passion for something that has done nothing but cost money, relationships, homes, friends, families, and careers. Life is to precious to continue to allow people to enroll, jump through hoops, and fall on their face as the silent majority watch and allow it to happen.

This is what makes sense out of the nonsense. Bravo :) :)

The use of a board on the internet actually saves people from making a lifelong mistake.
:) It does not cease to impress me. So many in this world take for the sake of want and not need. I love to see it go the way it is supposed to.
For all those that come looking to annoy berate or otherwise attempt aggrivation of those that would come to this board seeking only honest opinion this is a good example of why this makes sense and why it is worth actually READING these posts and not reading something INTO the website for the sake of one's personal pride.

Well done all. :)

Meanwhile three new DO schools are graduating their first DOs this year and enrollment in all DO schools is up 15%.

Life sent me a card to have my contact information printed in an alumni directory. I told them to take me off.

Yes, generally speaking I can't imagine chiropractic colleagues using the Alumni directory to contact us and congratulate us on the great work we are doing for "TIC" on Chirotalk.

Allen, I got that card too. At least you don't live right next to the school! What really upset me is that alumni no longer have access to the school gym!! Makes me sick every time I pass by the campus.

My own feeling is that it would be bad karma if you were to still use the school's athletic facilities. Being seen there would imply that you support the school and are happy with the "wonderful education" and "excellent career" you got as a result of attending Life. If you are to turn your back on this, you have to do so completely.

Parker is "diversifying", as they say, adding more allied health programs. In other words they aren't able to support themselves on the chiro program alone.

Docm,
I swear if I still lived in the bay area I'd go to San Francisco and drive up and down Van Ness ave rounding up as many homeless people as possible and take them down to meet our illustrious new president at "The Wave" next month...BAAAAHAHAHAHA! I think they should rename this seminar to "The Tsunami" because that school is about to be under deeeeeep water!

Don't think it hasn't been considered:

Quote:
The Homeless at College
For-profit schools are tapping shelters and halfway houses for new students, loading them with debt and leaving taxpayers on the hook

..."It's basically known in the community: If you're homeless, and you need some money, go to Drake," says Carmella Hutson, a case manager at the Goodwill Rescue Mission in Newark, where about 20 clients have enrolled at Drake in the past two years. "It would put money in my pocket, help me buy a car," adds Jerome Nickens, 45, who lived at the mission when he talked to a Drake representative but decided not to enroll.

What chiro schools should do is start two year programs to become nurses. There is such a long wait to get into nursing programs and as far as I know, there are not too many 2 year RN programs offered by private colleges.

That would be tantamount to an admission that chiropractic isn't a good career prospect. Sort of shooting themselves in the foot. You might as well expect them to:

  • Disclose that techniques taught are total quackery
  • There is no science in the chiropractic curriculum, just fake biomechanics
  • Chiropractic scope is inadequate to achieve biomechanical stablization

i wanted to go to my 5 year class reunion (lccw 12/06) so i contacted some of my friends who graduated with me and none are going! there's even some that live like 30 minutes away from the college! i don't know, it just tells you something when the alumni don't even want to go to their "alma mater".....they're even offering free food and drinks!!!!!

I went to lccw for 6 months during Life's accreditation drama. It was the worst. I hated the building and the area, etc. I enjoyed my time exploring San Fran tho! I should have just quit then-oh well.

Yes I remember driving past there, it was small and unimpressive. Life (University) east's campus looks like the Taj Mahal compared to that place (and most other chiropractic colleges).

Life West

Too bad the medical books in the library mostly collect dust.

Life east has a really nice pond which ducks love.
Birds of a feather...

I take my daughter to Life U campus everyday to ride her bike...I pity those students on campus in their blue clinic jackets trying to recruit patients. Sad.

Funny story-my husband ran into a Chiro that graduated 4 years ago from Life that said he has the cure for Rheumatoid Arthritis. This guy was marketing the heck out of a technique and said I should come in... my husband rolled his eyes and said "My wife no longer believes in Chiropractic and you must not know anything about RA"

So sad.
